So you are using the red and white cables to take the audio from the converter box to the TV?





You might check to see if the audio cable is seating tightly and you might even try wiggling the cable around a bit to see if that changes the noise in any way.





Although this would be a pain, it would be interesting to take this audio out from the converter and feed it to an AV receiver (or anything else with an audio input). This would help isolate the problem to the converter or your TV.
