Your question wasn't exactly specific as to what format the movie was in or what process you used to download or play the movie or, if you tried to convert it to DVD or not. But, my best response without this info is that you have some type of codec issue going on. It depends on what format film you are downloading and what programme you are using to play it. The most common solution is to acquire a 'codec' online. There are sights where you can find them including the windows webpage will direct you to some.
Piece of advice - only download avi. do not under any circumstances download an exe. and I tend to avoid wma.
The codec I use is Divx and I have had no problems with it - but I watch downloaded films in WMplayer.
