I just bought a violin and I want to learn to play it (before you suggest it, i will be taking lessons :-P). I've been playing around with it, but it won't make a clear note. It sounds breathy when I run the bow across a string. I did rosin the bow, so I don't know what's wrong! Why won't my violin make clear sound?
Make sure to rough up your rosin before putting it on- you want powder, don't just rub the block against the bow.
Hope that helps! Why won't my violin make clear sound?
Might just be an issue of tone production rather than the instrument. Use the weight of your arm to cause the bow to sink down into the string (don't push). If the bow ';skates'; on top, you will get a breathy or thin tone.
Good luck with this instrument!
Careful not to play too close to the bridge (holds up the strings)...stay at least an inch and a half from it
you probabley need to check the strings and the bridge?
You have to play in the space between the wodden brdge and the black part.If you are playing on the black finerboard then you wont get a good sound.
