The LP I'm trying to play doesn't skip, but it sounds a little rough from excessive play, is there anything I can do to fix this? I once heard something years ago about oiling a record, is this possible? How can I make a vinyl record sound more smooth and clear?
If it's worn, it's worn. Time to buy another copy. From what I understand (I may be wrong because I've never tried it), that oil will damage the vinyl. Sort of like putting oil on rubber engine parts. I'd look more into it before doing so. Whether it helps the record sound better, I doubt it. Try deep cleaning it first, but that may not even help.
Hope this helps. How can I make a vinyl record sound more smooth and clear?
If the record is damaged or worn from lots of playing, there isn't much that can be done. However a lot of the time its a build up of grunge in the grooves that is to blame. If you have or have access to a powered wet vacuum record cleaning machine that's the easiest way to clean really deep. Look online at needledoctor.com for cleaning solutions and cleaning pads galore for both hand and power cleaning.
